A combination of factors throughout the history of our democracy led us to collectively own a diverse segment of the natural landscapes found within the Confines of our Borders, together as a nation of people.

Fundamentally, the reason we've chosen to withhold certain, and specific lands present within our natural environment from private ownership... is because we've decided through the means of our democracy, that certain lands hold some degree of greater value to us as a people, if we maintain them as owned collectively by everyone.

Values we receive from this arrangement include:
The shared use and management of our natural resources in the United States for recreational benefits, ecological benefits, scientific benefits, educational benefits, economic benefits, social benefits, and more.
